Individual therapy in San Francisco

A place to make sense of what’s going on and figure out where to go from here.

Life can be complicated. Sometimes there’s a clear reason you’re struggling—a breakup, a loss, a major change. Other times, things just haven’t felt quite right for a while, and it’s hard to put your finger on why.

Individual therapy offers a place to talk through what’s happening, better understand yourself, and work toward changes that feel meaningful to you.

Areas of Focus

What can individual therapy help with?

There’s no single reason to start therapy, and you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from it. Some people feel stuck, overwhelmed, or dissatisfied with something in their lives but aren’t entirely sure where to begin. Others come in to address more specific concerns, including:

Anxiety, stress & overthinking

Constant worrying, racing thoughts, difficulty relaxing, burnout, or feeling like you’re always anticipating the next thing that could go wrong. We can explore what’s driving your anxiety and work on ways to manage it without letting it dictate your decisions.

Depression, low mood & motivation

Feeling down, disconnected, or less interested in things you used to enjoy. Therapy can help us understand what’s contributing to these feelings and find ways to make everyday life feel more manageable and rewarding.

Relationships & recurring patterns

Relationship issues like difficulty setting boundaries, people-pleasing, conflict with partners or family, or finding yourself in the same frustrating dynamics. We can look at how these patterns developed and how to change them.

Life transitions & identity

Career changes, breakups, moving, getting older, shifting priorities, or questioning what you want from life. Even positive changes can bring unexpected stress and uncertainty. Therapy gives us an opportunity to sort through it.

Grief & loss

The death of someone important, the end of a relationship, or the loss of a future you had imagined. Grief doesn’t always follow a predictable path, and there’s no single right way to experience it.

Self-esteem, self-criticism & confidence

Being hard on yourself, struggling with perfectionism, second-guessing decisions, comparing yourself to others, or feeling like you’re never quite doing enough. We can work on understanding where these expectations come from and developing a more balanced sense of self-worth.

The Therapeutic Process

What working together looks like

I don’t think therapy needs to feel mysterious, formal, or academic to be useful. My style is conversational, collaborative, and engaged. I listen carefully, ask questions, offer observations, and sometimes challenge you to consider something from a different perspective. I also believe there’s plenty of room for humor in therapy, even when we’re talking about difficult things.

I’m interested in understanding not just what you’re struggling with, but how it shows up in your everyday life—and what might actually help things feel different.

Where we focus our time

Some sessions might involve talking about something that happened during the week. Others might focus on a recurring pattern, a difficult decision, or something from your past that continues to affect you today.

You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly articulated problem or a list of goals. We can figure that part out together.

Moving Forward

A practical approach to making changes

Understanding why you feel or behave a certain way can be helpful. But insight alone doesn’t always change much.

Part of our work together might mean learning to respond differently to anxiety, communicating more directly, setting boundaries, making a difficult decision, or recognizing when an old pattern is getting in your way.

The goal isn’t to become a completely different person. It’s to have a better understanding of yourself and more flexibility in how you navigate your life.
